Mission Beach

The hideaway township of Mission Beach is surrounded by a lush backdrop of World Heritage listed wet tropical rainforest, sunkissed white sandy beaches and the silvery shimmering blues of the Coral Sea.

A picturesque 1.5 hours drive south from Cairns International and Domestic Airports, through rich cane fields, banana plantations and historic towns, Mission Beach is a unique and unspoilt haven.

There are some twenty tropical islands lazing just off shore and fourteen kilometres of sandy beaches edging up to the only surviving lowlands rainforest in the Australian tropics.

Two shopping centres - one at Mission Beach and one at Wongaling Beach service the area with supermarkets, butchers, newsagents, TAB, greengrocer, Post Office, Banks, delicatessen, clothing stores, hairdressers, art gallery, dive shop, hardware store and service stations. There is a liquor outlet at Wongaling Beach.

The shopping areas have been designed to blend in with the area's natural beauty.

The area boasts many restaurants offering a wide range of cuisine from French, Chinese, Italian and international .... some fully licensed, others BYO. As well, there are a host of takeaways, coffee shops and ample retail outlets for those who want to do their own cooking.

Mission Beach is secluded, yet it is also the perfect base to explore the other wonders of the region; the Great Barrier Reef , Hinchinbrook Island , Dunk Island , Atherton Tablelands, Cairns , World Heritage Wet Tropic Rainforest and the Gulf Savannah.

On the 1st, 3rd and last Sunday of each month, Mission Beach is home to our local or monster markets. (Easter - Nov) Local produce, foods, knick knacks and hand crafts.

Our unique wildlife is one to be seen. Look out for cassowaries, wallabies, white tail rats, bilbys, wild pigs and goannas.
